What if… two little words that are always on my mind. Sometimes I don’t know if it stems from a place of curiosity where I am thinking about the endless possibilities or trying new ways of doing things; or if it comes from my anxiety, where its more based around a fear of the unknown and potential problems that can arise. One thing I do know for certain is that I find myself asking the same question each day.
What if I could travel for free? What if I could pick any random flight number, country, city and just get on the plane and not turn back? Where would I go. Would I chose somewhere with amazing beaches for me to lay in the sun with my toes in the sand? Take a swim in the crystal clear ocean and snorkel in the waves with the fish that live beneath the surface. Waking up to tidal sounds, looking out and seeing the sun lightly illuminate the world outside. Then I think.. no.. I would choose to take a safari along the plains of Africa. Somewhere where I can get in touch with my inner Attenborough. Hop in the truck each morning, feel the brisk air brush across my face as my excitement of seeing the elusive animals builds. Animals and brisk air… there’s an idea and quickly I change my mind to the worlds most mysterious and untouched continent… Antarctica. Waking up each morning to ice walls and sculptures, carefully crafted over years of rising tides. Watch colonies of penguins slip and slide their way to the ocean whilst I sit perched on the edge of the ship, clutching at my camera and snapping each moment. Or would I go for something to quench my thirst for history and knowledge, where my inner nerd can learn and grow. Wander around the ancient cities, dreaming of what it used to be before it was overrun with tourists and technology, imagining the way the people used to live thousands of years ago. Places where I can add to my forever growing list of fun facts.
What if I could climb some of the highest mountains, which one would I choose first? Would I go for something easy to start off with or challenge myself with a beast. With each step feeling more and more accomplished, making my way closer to the clouds in the sky. Trekking sounds like a fantastic idea. Getting in touch with nature, the animals, hearing the birds in the trees around me and what better place than South America. Maybe a trek on the Inca trail, no, The Andes or even the Amazon and catch a glimpse of an anaconda or the very ambiguous black jaguar. Or would I find myself surrounded by snow on the peaks of the Swiss Alps, ride the train up to the top of Juangfrau and freeze as I looked down at the greenery below.
One thing is for sure, no matter where I go, it will be an experience to remember.
What if I could make all this dreaming and rambling a reality?
